DescriptionArtist Statement: If you've ever been to San Francisco, you know there's a lot of activity on Market Street, it is the main street for all things in Downtown San Francisco. It gets pretty crazy there with all the buses, trolley cars, automobiles, delivery trucks, people going to and from work and of course the occasional tourists getting lost trying to drive around the city going the wrong way on one-way streets. I really wanted to catch some of that hustle and bustle of the Lower Market Street area for some paintings. At the time I had just bought a new camera and planned a road trip up to the Bay Area to shoot reference photos and maybe paint, weather permitting. The weather was spotty and cold, but on the day, I went into the city, I lucked out and it was raining. Yes, raining, just what I wanted, I really wanted to catch all the reflecting lights hitting the wet streets of the city. The only bummer about the rain was that I had left my umbrella back at my place up in Marin, typical. So, there I was running around with my jacket over my head shooting whatever caught my eye and this was one of the scenes that made me slow down and be there in the moment. With everything whizzing by, I was trying to shoot as much of it that I could, then I saw the person on their bike coming and knew right away that it would make a fun painting. So, I shot a bunch more of them as they went by to make sure I caught them in the moment. Half soaked and stoked on my day; I ended my day in the city with a stop at the Buena Vista for a couple Irish Coffees. On View
