DescriptionRalph Hulett worked at Walt Disney Studios and had an artistic hand in every Disney animated feature from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to The Jungle Book (1967). In his non-Disney hours, he painted numerous fine-art works depicting Southern California, and is probably best known for his paintings depicting the final days of the old Victorian houses atop Bunker Hill in Los Angeles, and other changing aspects of the City of Angels. Here, in lone splendor, stands a solitary surfer, board in hand, contemplating his next wave. All around him in this painting, done in shades of bronze, is a misty atmosphere that any surfer or early morning beach walker will recognize, as the sun attempts to break through the morning cloud cover, heralding a new day.
