DescriptionThis painting was inspired by a bird’s-eye view of Pier 29 in San Francisco -- one of the many piers that jut out into the Bay from the Embarcadero waterfront. This particular pier is located between the Ferry Building and Fisherman’s Wharf. Otis Oldfield was a San Francisco painter, printmaker and educator who studied at the Academie Julien in Paris in 1911, and remained and worked in France until 1924. He had a successful solo show in San Francisco in 1925, and two gallery exhibitions in New York City in 1929. In 1934, he was one of 26 artists selected to paint murals in the newly constructed Coit Tower. Oldfield’s famous students included Yun Gee, Richard Diebenkorn and Nathan Oliveira. On View
