DescriptionArtist Statement: It’s quiet and hot. The sun is just starting to rise and already it feels like anoven. But as the light falls on the rugged San Jacinto Mountains and the valley below, the scenery
comes alive. I knew instantly that I had to paint this dynamic setting when I came across it. I
wanted to capture the beautiful midcentury architecture of Palm Springs, paired with a classic
1963 Studebaker Avanti, that was, in fact, originally designed in the city. Dramatic shadows
stretch through the scene but part to highlight specific design elements like the intricate breeze
block wall and the delicate curves of the car. It’s an idealized, escapist painting that
communicates what makes Palm Springs so special.
