DescriptionFresh fish for sale – right off the boat! You may still be able to find a few fishing boats handling their own sales in Newport Beach, but here Phil Dike captures a time more than half a century ago, and an activity that many Southern Californians hold fondly in memory. Philip Latimer Dike was born in Redlands and grew up surrounded by his grandmother's art at home. In 1929, he began teaching at Chouinard before leaving on a trip to Europe, where he studied mural decoration. Dike obtained a position with Walt Disney Studios in 1935 as a drawing instructor, color coordinator, and advisor. He assisted in a number of animated feature films, including Fantasia and Snow White.
