DescriptionIn "The Bridge," Robert Frame transforms a utilitarian structure into a poetic symbol of continuity and form. The sweeping arches of a structure that may be the Arroyo Hondo Bridge near Santa Barbara dominate the semi-abstract urban landscape, merging architectural realism with expressive color and brushwork. Frame's modernist approach captures both the physical presence and the enduring rhythm of the built environment, offering a contemplative take on California’s evolving urban spaces.A native Californian, Frame was born in Pasadena and studied at Pasadena City College and Pomona College, Claremont, later earning acclaim as both a painter and educator. He taught for many years at Santa Barbara City College, and his lyrical, color-rich works often reflect the state’s unique coastal and architectural settings. Frame’s paintings are admired for their sumptuous color and their balance of abstraction with evocative subject matter.
