DescriptionArtist Statement:
One day while on a walk, I came around the corner and was met by the most amazing rose bush I have ever seen.
Now, I am not one to anthropomorphize things at all. But I was "greeted" by this beautiful rose bush. It was visceral and unexpected, that greeting. I was taken aback and paused, its giant large blooms reaching out and into the sky.
I knew what I had to do. I introduced that wise rose specimen to another old soul, a special woman, a dancer, who, in her young life, had dealt with unexpected health problems and as such, had the soul of sage. I could see it in her eyes.
And the painting began and continued over many months, many plein air studies, and many revisions. Finally, the painting was complete.
They are now together, these two Old Souls.
