DescriptionSince the late 1980s Frank Romero has continued to produce art that reflects his life experiences, both present and past. The automobile has played an important role in his life, and auto-related images have been a reoccurring theme in his art. He has also produced a number of well-known murals in the Los Angeles area, including 1984's "Driving to the Olympics" along the 101 freeway.

This painting of a drive-in diner is an example of an automobile-related image from his past. "Dolores'" was the name of a chain of drive-in food diners in the Los Angeles area. There were several locations, but the one on Wilshire Blvd. is most often remembered. People would drive up, order food and be served by waitresses or waiters while the customers sat in their car.
