DescriptionBentley Schaad received advanced art instruction from Henry Lee McFee at the Claremont Colleges. McFee was a leading proponent of Formalist-Realist still life painting, which favors a realistic rendering of forms. Schaad was a true disciple of McFee and gradually developed his own style. This painting was produced at the height of this period in Schaad's career. -Gordon McClelland
