DescriptionThe mouth of Santa Rosa Creek in Cambria as it flows to the sea is massed with driftwood after a major storm. As the huge surf is sometimes 12 feet high, it brings these pieces of trees and tumbles them on the rock and sand, and they become woven sculptural elements. Phil walked through this area, photographed them, collected some special ones but mostly sketched and mentally noted the forms, patterns, and colors against the sea for future incorporation into his work.
