DescriptionARTIST’S STATEMENT: Several modern artists, like Kenneth Nolan and Frank Stella, have utilized Navajo blankets as inspiration – they’ve done the linear colored bands, but they’ve made them very regular and predictable. I think they lost the spirit of the original weavings. So I wanted to pay tribute to those original designers, the Navajo women weavers whose names have mostly been lost. They made the weavings by hand with no mechanical devices to assist them. I put those together with pottery from other Native American cultures. And the popcorn is my contemporary addition.
